Script typefaces are based upon the varied and often fluid stroke created by handwriting, pretty much like the cursive fonts just typically more elegant. They are organized into highly regular formal types similar to cursive writing and looser, more casual scripts.

The only real difference between a Revit hatch and a ACAD hatch is a small piece of script that is added to the pat script. Revit reads hatch patterns a little differently than Autocad. If you add the script as outlined in the above mentioned file (you can copy clip it in) to a copy of your ACAD hatch patterns you can then import the pat filers into Revit.
I didn't write a data extraction, just used AutoCAD's wizard to create and save one. I don't know if that creates a script or something which can be edited. You're right, though.
