CKC Lure Coursing for Sighthound Breeds.
Sledding: Sled dog sports, often referred to as “mushing,” have great versatility in the number and range of events. The particular formats practiced in a given area are largely dependent upon tradition and climate. The Nome style of the sport is performed with a dog sled, in which the driver (known as the musher) pushes the sled, runs along side of the sled, or rides on the sled’s runners.
The American Kennel Club recently created a new event that allows all dogs to discover the excitement of lure coursing.. (CAX) title.Licensed lure coursing clubs may hold CATs in conjunction.
COURSING ABILITY TEST REGULATIONS Section 1. Purpose. The purpose of the AKC Coursing Ability Test is to provide all dogs and their owners an enjoyable, healthy activity in which they can participate. Based on the sport of lure coursing, Coursing Ability Tests will serve as an introduction to the sport for all eligible dog owners.
In order of years of experience in the sport they are the American Sighthound Field Association (ASFA) founded in May of 1972, the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) which took over Canadian lure coursing from the Canadian Lure Coursing Association (CLCA) and the American Kennel Club (AKC) which became active in lure coursing in September of 199 Each have slightly different running rules and criteria.
The CKC Lure Coursing Council has been working alongside CKC Head Office personnel to create the Chase Ability Program (CAP) to provide all purebred and mixed-breed dogs a chance to earn a participation title in a field event. The proposed rules for the event were passed at the September CKC Board of Directors meeting and the program is.
The American Sighthound Field Association was founded in 1972. Since then the ASFA has been promoting the sport of lure coursing throughout the US. We are proud to be the first nationally known association for lure coursing. In the sport of lure coursing we do not chase live game, we use a plastic bag on a string powered by motors.
ASFA titles are issued by the American Sighthound Field Association and are published in FAN (Field Advisor News). They will not appear on official AKC issued pedigrees. This does not mean that the ASFA titles are in anyway inferior. In fact in my opinion and experience the LCM is the most difficult lure coursing title to earn.
